FAQ's
Scouts BSA is the traditional Scouting experience for youth in the fifth grade through high school. Service, community engagement and leadership development become increasingly important parts of the program as youth lead their own activities and work their way toward earning Scouting’s highest rank, Eagle Scout.
Scouts BSA has a lot to offer, but don’t let the number of merit badges scare you away. With exposure to a uniquely hands-on learning experience and the opportunity to earn merit badges reflecting each Scout’s budding interests, youth unlock a world of discovery around them and forge a path for the future.
When compared to the cost of sports and many other activities, there is no doubt that Scouting delivers great value to its members! The registration fee for youth to join Scouting is $76 annually and there is a one-time joining fee of $25 for first time members.
Other costs to consider are the annual Troop Dues ($50.00) which cover the cost of merit badge, rank and award purchases. There may be additional program participation and activity fees that may be charged by your troop and/or council for events such as troop campouts, Summer/Winter camp, National Youth Leadership Training (NYLT), Camporee, O.A. Pow Wow.
Of course, these costs may be offset by fundraising and other available scholarship funds. Please contact your local unit leadership for details.
Meetings are every Monday at 7:00pm except for federal holidays. Our building is located inside Mission Lions Park 1500 E Kika De la Garza Loop Mission TX 78572.
Yes of course. While it is the scout’s responsibility to plan and attend upcoming activities, it is beneficial that you attend do in order to stay informed. There are details explained in meetings that may not get communicated to you by your scout alone.
Absolutely! Scouting seeks to provide the positive outcomes of character development and leadership skills for all eligible youth. Since its founding in 1910, the BSA has guided young men and women of all abilities down their path to success. Based on the individual needs and circumstances involved, unit leadership will work with a child’s parents to ensure a challenging and rewarding Scouting experience.
Currently Troop 84 Mission does not have a female unit available. However, for the first time in its 100+ year history, the iconic program of the Boy Scouts of America is open to young women as well as young men, all of whom will have the chance to earn Scouting’s highest rank, Eagle Scout. In Scouts BSA, young men and women go places, test themselves, and have one-of-a-kind adventures that can’t be found anywhere else.
